Hello all.
I'm planning to burn some avi files to the standard dvd format for a sighted person who is not technically oriented enough to know how or to have a dvd player that supports the avi format. I have a few questions about this.
1. Is there a standard amount of time that one can burn to a DVD, like there is for a conventional CD?
2. When burning episodes of a show, does each need to be seperated by chapter? I'm using express burn to try to do this, but wanted to get a few things streight before I actually attempt to burn the dvd/dvd's. any help would greatly be appreciated!

I have Nero, and I've used Nero vision to burn a standard DVD, but Nero took care of all the details, so I can't be very specific. As far as the time, I found that whenever I accidentally went over 150 minutes, Nero warned me, and asked if I wanted to switch to a lower quality in order to make all the data fit. Not sure if this is of any help.

As far as I remember it depends on which quality the video is in really, a dvd has a fixed max size so it's all about having it all fit there. The lesser quality the more can fit.
With regards to skipping between, yes they do need to be split into chapters.
Check out how your dvd burning program handles the conversion too, like if it can make a pre-generated menu or if it just throws it into a sequence.
